Tithi is the lunar day from the Sun-Moon angle. Vāra is the weekday lord. Nakshatra is the Moon's mansion among twenty-seven. Yoga comes from the Sun-Moon sum. Karana is half a tithi.

In the Tamil panchangam tradition a civil day is usually sunrise-to-sunrise at the observer's place. Limb boundaries therefore depend on latitude and longitude.
