South Indian Horoscope Chart Generator

The South Indian horoscope chart is the 12-box grid, starting clockwise from Aries (Mesha), that Tamil families know from printed jathagams. AstroYogam generates your birth chart in this traditional style - accurate Rasi (D1) and Navamsa (D9) grids from the Thirukanitha engine.

This South Indian Rasi (D1) chart is genuine engine output - the nine grahas and Lagna placed with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Your own chart is computed the same way, from your exact birth details.

  • Lagna in Simha
  • Moon in Vrishabha
  • Saturn in Dhanu

The South Indian grid layout

In the South Indian chart format, the 12 zodiac signs are fixed in position. The count begins at Aries (Mesha) in the top row (second box from the left) and proceeds clockwise.

Unlike North Indian charts where the Ascendant is fixed at the top, the South Indian grid marks the Lagna (Lg) in whichever fixed sign it falls. This makes planetary visualization very intuitive.

Method

Why both Rasi and Navamsa matter

While the Rasi chart (D1) outlines a person's broader life path, the Navamsa chart (D9) is critical for determining the true underlying strength of planets and assessing marriage.

AstroYogam generates both Rasi and Navamsa grids with high precision using the Lahiri ayanamsa and Swiss Ephemeris data.

Method

South Indian horoscope chart vs North Indian style

In the South Indian horoscope chart the zodiac signs stay fixed and the Lagna (Lg) is marked in whichever sign it falls. In the North Indian style the houses stay fixed and the zodiac rotates. A South Indian chart calculator therefore draws each sign in the same box for everyone, which makes comparing two charts and spotting placements easier.

AstroYogam specializes in the South Indian layout for both Rasi (D1) and Navamsa (D9). If you already read North Indian kundli charts, the same planets are shown - only the grid orientation differs.
