Why Your Raja Yogas and Dashas Fail (And the Math That Actually Works)
By: AstroYogam Editorial | Published: August 07, 2026
Many people who follow Vedic astrology eventually get frustrated. You pull up your birth chart online and see a powerful Raja Yoga. You check your current period and find you are running an excellent Dasha. The prediction promises wealth and success that never arrive.
Basic horoscopes fail here because they run incomplete math. An accurate prediction requires looking past the surface-level Rasi chart to calculate how planetary dignity and transits interact.
TL;DR
Basic astrology charts miss two calculations. First, a planet might look strong in your main Rasi chart, but if it loses strength in the D9 (Navamsa) chart, the Yoga fails (Yoga Bhanga). Second, a bad 9-planet Gochara transit can block the results of an otherwise great long-term Dasha.
The Raja Yoga trap
When looking only at a basic D1 (Rasi) chart, a Gaja Kesari Yoga might appear very strong and suggest excellent results. However, if those results never materialize, the missing piece is often Yoga Bhanga, or mathematical cancellation.
A Yoga on the D1 chart is just the foundation. If the planets forming that Yoga lose dignity in the D9 (Navamsa) chart, the Yoga is structurally weak and will not produce the expected results.
AstroYogam's Forecast v3 Engine calculates a mathematical blend of D1 and D9 dignity instead of just counting Yogas. If a planet is exalted in Rasi but debilitated in Navamsa, its actual strength drops significantly. Our engine evaluates this balance automatically and scores the forecast accordingly.
Dasha vs. Gochara
People frequently debate whether the Dasha (planetary period) or Gochara (current transit) is more important.
Dasha sets the long-term baseline, and Gochara provides the daily variations. You might be in a great Jupiter Dasha, but a day of bad transits will still cause problems.
Most apps simplify this by checking only Saturn or Jupiter transits. AstroYogam calculates a full 9-planet Moon Gochara, including Vedha. Vedha refers to hidden obstructions where one planet's transit blocks another planet's good results.
We overlay this transit data with your specific Dasha chain, weighing your Maha, Antar, and Pratyantar dashas. This produces a single favorability score.
Key takeaways
- A strong Rasi chart means little if the Navamsa chart cancels it out.
- Bad transits routinely ruin good Dashas, especially when hidden obstructions (Vedha) are present.
- Accurate astrology relies on deterministic math rather than vague interpretations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your D9 Navamsa chart might cancel your Raja Yoga. Astrologers call this mathematical cancellation Yoga Bhanga.
Both matter. Dasha sets the long-term trend, and Gochara determines your immediate day-to-day reality.
We use a deterministic engine that blends D1/D9 dignity, functional lordships, and a full 9-planet transit calculation with Vedha to produce an exact score.
